The council noted that this would be the largest detached garage in the area, potentially setting a precedent for future requests.
The Planning and Zoning Commission had previously recommended approval, citing limited visibility from surrounding streets and a lack of objections from neighbors. The council emphasized the importance of following proper procedures for such requests, as the applicant was aware of the need for an SUP due to the structure's non-compliance with the Unified Development Code, which allows a maximum garage size of 625 square feet and a height of 15 feet.
In a separate discussion, the council also considered a request for a residential infill at 329 Harborview, where a 5,086-square-foot single-family home is proposed. This request also received a favorable recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission. The proposed home aligns with the architectural style of existing homes in the established Chandlers Landing subdivision, although it does not fully comply with setback and roof pitch requirements. No objections were raised from nearby homeowners, leading to a motion for approval.
