During a recent government meeting, Coach Dutch Wilson recognized the outstanding achievements of three track and field athletes from TA Dugger Middle School who competed at the state championships held at Austin Peay University in May.
Neveah Hooper, a discus thrower, demonstrated significant growth both as an athlete and a student. She qualified for the state championships by finishing in the top four at the East Tennessee sectionals, ultimately placing in the top 15 in the state with a personal best throw of 73 feet.
Ava Rogers, a shot put thrower, showcased remarkable consistency throughout the season, finishing first in every meet except one. At the East Tennessee sectionals, she secured first place with a throw of over 47 feet, just missing the school record by an inch and a half. At the state level, she earned a fourth-place finish and was recognized as All State.
Valinave, a versatile athlete, excelled in multiple events, winning the Most Valuable Player award at the Area 1 track meet. She achieved first place in the 400 meters and discus, and second place in shot put at the East Tennessee sectionals, qualifying for the state in all three events—a rare feat. At the state championships, she recorded personal bests in all her events and earned a sixth-place medal in discus with a throw of 93 feet 11 inches. Valinave has been recognized as All State for three consecutive years and holds three school records in the 400 meters, 800 meters, and 1600 meters.
Collectively, these athletes contributed to TA Dugger's impressive 14th place finish at the state track meet, highlighting a promising future for the high school track and field team. Coach Wilson expressed pride in their accomplishments and the potential they bring to the program.
