In a recent meeting of the Livingston County Board in Illinois, the Pontiac Township High School Girls Varsity Softball Team was honored for their remarkable achievement in winning the 2024 Class 3A IHSA State Championship. The team, which finished the season with an impressive record of 31 wins and 7 losses, outscored their opponents 234 to 75 throughout the season, and dominated the postseason with a staggering 51 to 4 score.
This victory marks a historic milestone, as the Pontiac girls' varsity team is the first in the school's history to secure a state championship, not only for the softball program but for any girls' team at Pontiac Township High School. The recognition included a formal resolution from the County Board, celebrating the team's accomplishments and the pride they have brought to the community.
The resolution acknowledged the team's journey, which included victories in the Washington Classic, Illini Perry Conference, regionals, sectionals, and super sectionals, culminating in their state championship win. The team members recognized during the presentation included Lilly Fetgater, Tessa Collins, Maddie Gourley, and several others, alongside their coaching staff led by head coach Nicole Hayner.
