In a recent government meeting, officials provided an update on the \"Get the Lead Out\" campaign aimed at ensuring safe drinking water in schools across Missouri. The initiative, which involved independent testing of water fixtures, identified 12 sources of concern within school facilities. Following the initial findings, the operations team replaced the problematic fixtures, successfully resolving issues in 11 of the 12 cases. The remaining fixture, located in a rarely used sink, will undergo further evaluation this summer, with plans to replace its shutoff valves. If testing reveals continued issues, the district may opt to remove the sink entirely to prevent future confusion regarding its use.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted upcoming events, including a welcome session for new teachers on July 31 and a back-to-school convocation on August 16, both of which board members are invited to attend. The Missouri School Boards' Association (MSBA) annual conference is scheduled for October 24-25 in Kansas City, marking a shift to an earlier date compared to previous years.
The meeting also included a monthly financial summary and updates from the recent facilities planning committee meeting, which focused on assessments in the northern part of the district. Board members were encouraged to ask questions regarding the reports and ongoing initiatives.
