In a recent government meeting, the community of Vermilion came together to honor two local heroes, Matt Green and Tony Bujav, for their courageous actions during a house fire on May 13, 2024. The pair noticed smoke emanating from the home of their elderly neighbor, Miss Willie Ann Schultz, and without hesitation, rushed to her aid.
Despite the imminent danger posed by the flames and smoke, Green and Bujav forced their way into the burning residence, searching for Miss Schultz. Their bravery was evident as they crawled through the heavily smoke-filled home, determined to ensure the safety of their neighbor. After confirming that Miss Schultz was not inside, they continued their efforts by rescuing her beloved dog and retrieving valuable items before escaping the blaze themselves.
Chief William Brown announced that on July 15, 2024, the city will formally recognize Green and Bujav for their selfless acts of heroism. The community expressed gratitude for their actions, highlighting the spirit of volunteerism and neighborly care that defines the small town of Green Lake. Additionally, a citation from the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association will be awarded to Matt Green in recognition of his bravery.
The meeting underscored the importance of community involvement and the impact of individuals who step up in times of crisis, reinforcing the values that residents of Vermilion hold dear.
