DuPage County has achieved a significant upgrade in its community rating system designation from FEMA, moving from a rating of 6 to 5. This advancement will directly benefit nearly 400 homeowners in unincorporated areas, who can expect to receive discounts of up to 25% on their flood insurance premiums. This change is projected to save these residents over $60,000 annually.
The county's Building and Zoning Department, along with the Stormwater Management Department, has dedicated the past six years to improving floodplain management activities, which are recognized by FEMA's community rating system. Since the program's inception in 2018, DuPage County has collectively saved its residents more than $600,000 in flood insurance costs.
Residents are encouraged to visit the Building and Zoning Department's website for further details and to reach out to their insurance providers for specific information regarding their discounts.
