During a recent government meeting, the Montgomery Historical Society's funding request of $25,000 was discussed, with officials emphasizing the importance of supporting the society to maintain the city's status as a first-class city. The remaining budget for such contributions stands at $52,250, indicating a willingness among commissioners to allocate funds to the historical society.
Additionally, Deborah Neal, representing Aid to Inmate Mothers (AiM), presented a request for sponsorship of their 37th anniversary fundraiser. AiM, the only facility in Montgomery County that accepts women from Alabama prisons, highlighted its role in reducing crime and strengthening family bonds. Neal shared impactful stories of women who have benefited from the program, underscoring its significance in the community.
The commission responded positively to Neal's request for $1,500 from each member to support the upcoming event, which aims to raise $40,000. Commissioners expressed their appreciation for AiM's contributions to the community and committed to supporting the initiative. The annual luncheon is scheduled for October 23 at the RSA Activity Center, featuring keynote speaker Judge Sue Bell Cobb.
