County launches ambitious recycling initiative with EPA grant

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed several key initiatives aimed at enhancing community services and infrastructure.

One of the highlights was the approval of a $2,500 contribution to the Family Guidance Center's sneaker gala, with participation from multiple commissioners. The funds will be split among Commissioners Ziegler, Moore, and Singleton, reflecting a collaborative effort to support local family services.

Additionally, Deputy Administrator Kendall Anderson presented a final pay application and change order for the re-roofing of Annex Three, the building housing the meeting. The project concluded under budget, resulting in a savings of $122,675 for the county. The board unanimously agreed to waive rules to expedite the project's closure.

Another significant agenda item was the proposal for an EPA community change grant aimed at establishing a county-wide recycling program. This initiative, in partnership with the city of Montgomery, seeks funding to implement recycling bins across various locations, including ten schools and fifteen other sites. The program will focus on plastic recycling and will be managed by an independent vendor yet to be selected.
