A recent government meeting highlighted ongoing issues with sewer backups in the sheriff's administrative office, prompting discussions on necessary infrastructure improvements. Major Anderson reported a significant sewer backup incident that occurred early last Monday, which required the intervention of C&K Services at a cost of $1,070. The backup affected floor drains and utility closets, leading to extensive damage, including fecal matter on the floor and water leaking from the ceiling.
In response to the recurring plumbing issues, officials noted that the existing cast iron pipes, which have accumulated calcium deposits over time, are likely contributing to the problem. Recommendations were made to replace the outdated plumbing with larger PVC pipes to prevent future backups. A claim for damages has been submitted to KCamp, and cleanup efforts are ongoing, with Service Master involved in restoring the affected areas.
The meeting also addressed the need for water detection sensors to be installed in critical areas of the facility. These sensors would provide immediate alerts in case of moisture detection, allowing for quicker responses to potential water damage. While the sensors are an additional expense, officials emphasized that the cost is minimal compared to the damage caused by the recent incidents.
Additionally, the completion of an outdoor employee break area was announced, funded through ARPA funds, with total expenditures amounting to $4,391.64. The meeting underscored the importance of proactive measures to safeguard against infrastructure failures and ensure the well-being of employees and facilities.
