In a recent government meeting, officials discussed a proposed redevelopment project at the former Torrington Ford site located at 1355 East Main Street. The project aims to transform the predominantly impervious surface area into a more environmentally friendly space, significantly increasing the amount of green space available.

Currently, the site features only 5,088 square feet of green space. The new proposal will enhance this to 15,458 square feet, which equates to approximately a quarter acre more of greenery. The design includes a landscaped tree line buffer along both East Main Street and Long Battell Street, marking a substantial improvement in the site's aesthetics and environmental impact.

The project will consist of a four-story building with a total area of 72,500 square feet, with each floor measuring 18,125 square feet. Officials emphasized that this redevelopment not only improves the visual appeal of the area but also contributes positively to the local environment.

Traffic impact from the project is expected to be minimal, with estimates suggesting it will generate between 12 to 20 car trips per day. This low traffic volume is attributed to the nature of the units, which may see infrequent visits from users, further supporting the project's designation as low-impact.
