Taxpayer Shocked by Dramatic Increase in Local Taxes

During a recent government meeting, local resident Marilyn Smith expressed her concerns regarding the significant increase in her property taxes. Smith highlighted that her county taxes have surged by nearly $1,000, with specific increases in various local taxes, including a jump in Salina City tax from $76 to $211 and a rise in Salina Airport tax from $8399 to $232.

Additionally, she noted a substantial increase in a supplemental tax, referred to as the GE cap, which rose from $108 to $300. Smith, who moved to the area from Arkansas just ten months ago, voiced her astonishment at the tax rates, questioning why they are so much higher compared to her previous residence despite having similar governance structures in both locations.

Her comments reflect a growing concern among residents about the rising cost of living and the impact of local taxation on families and individuals. The meeting underscored the need for further discussion on tax policies and their implications for the community.
