In a recent meeting of the Blount County School Board, Justin Ridge from Samuel Everett School of Innovation introduced Tyler Gilliland as the new student representative. Gilliland, who has been part of the Blount County Schools system since second grade, is recognized for his extensive involvement in extracurricular activities and community service.
Gilliland is an active member of several clubs, including the Beta Club and Math Club, and participates in Young Life. He also served as a representative at the SCOPE conference this past year. His commitment to community service is evident through his volunteer work with organizations such as Second Harvest Food Bank and Monte Vista Baptist Church, where he has contributed to Vacation Bible School and served as a media technician.
Academically, Gilliland stands out with an impressive 4.46 GPA and a perfect score of 35 on the ACT. He has also been recognized as a national merit commended student. In addition to his academic and volunteer commitments, he works as a peer teacher for AP Calculus and AP Precalculus and referees soccer in his spare time.
The board expressed enthusiasm for Gilliland's appointment, highlighting his embodiment of the values of Samuel Everett School and his potential to contribute positively to the school community.
