During a recent government meeting, the bravery of three firefighters from the FN Fire Department was honored with the Firefighter Medal of Honor. Fire Chief recognized Lieutenant Stroud, Firefighter Seimer, and Firefighter Pahoki for their courageous actions during a hazardous incident on September 29, 2023.
The firefighters responded to a serious vehicle accident on US Highway 40, where a truck carrying hazardous materials had overturned, releasing toxic chemicals. Upon arrival, they were tasked with searching a nearby residence for an adult and two children who were reported to be in the area. Despite the imminent danger posed by a cloud of toxic gas, the firefighters proceeded with their search.
Tragically, they discovered one child who had already passed away. Undeterred, the crew continued their efforts and found an injured woman in a crashed vehicle. Utilizing a rapid intervention team pack, they successfully evacuated her, a move that likely saved her life. After changing their air tanks multiple times, they continued their search and sadly found the second child deceased.
The Chief emphasized that the actions of Stroud, Seimer, and Pahoki exemplified the true spirit of firefighting—selflessness and bravery in the face of danger. The Medal of Honor awarded to them serves as a heartfelt acknowledgment of their dedication and willingness to risk their lives for the safety of others. The community expressed immense pride and gratitude for their service.
Following this commendation, the meeting transitioned to discussions regarding a new comprehensive plan, scope, and budget proposal.
