The city of Grapevine proudly recognized the Grapevine High School Mustangs baseball team for their remarkable achievement in winning the 2024 Texas 5A State Championship. The team secured their title with a narrow 2-1 victory over the Leander Roos in the semifinals, followed by a thrilling 6-5 win against Lucas Lovejoy, marking the school's second championship since 2016.
Under the guidance of coaches Jimmy Webster, Jason Washburn, Darion Mooney, Josh Dillard, and Kaden Hensley, the Mustangs concluded their season with an impressive record of 40 wins and 5 losses, the highest in the school's history. Several players received individual accolades, with five named to the All-Tournament Team and one selected for the All-Star Team. Additionally, the team boasted multiple district honors, including Dason Hill as District Pitcher of the Year and Jarrett Boswell as District MVP.
During a ceremony on July 16, 2024, Mayor Darlene Fried presented a certificate of recognition to the coaches and players, celebrating their dedication and success. The event also highlighted the recent achievement of Jason Hill, who was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the Major League Baseball draft.
The Grapevine community continues to celebrate the Mustangs' accomplishments, looking forward to their future endeavors in baseball and beyond.
