In a recent government meeting, Chris Conley, general manager of the Iowa Event Center, presented an optimistic outlook for the fiscal year 2025 budget, projecting a profit of over $1.4 million for the county. Conley highlighted the center's diverse event lineup, which includes hosting an NHL preseason game on September 22 and an NBA preseason game featuring the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 11. These events mark a significant milestone for the center, showcasing its growing reputation and partnerships, particularly with the Oakview Group.
Conley also announced the grand opening of the newly renovated junior ballroom, previously known as the Hall of Pride, set for the end of September. This addition is expected to enhance the venue's capacity for hosting events and generating revenue.
Reflecting on the previous fiscal year, Conley noted a remarkable combined profit of over $3 million, the second highest in the center's history. The success was attributed to a sold-out Iowa Basketball Doubleheader and an increase in concerts, with 22 events held compared to the usual 16 to 17, including performances by high-profile comedians.
Conley expressed gratitude towards the staff and partners, particularly Catch Des Moines and the Hilton downtown, for their contributions to the center's success. He remains hopeful that fiscal year 2025 will continue this positive trend, building on the momentum of the past year.
