City moves to transform vacant land into park space

During a recent government meeting, urban planner Michael Ferreira presented a significant rezoning initiative aimed at transforming a vacant property located at 2900 East Los Ols Boulevard. This property, currently designated as a Planned Resort Development District, is set to be rezoned to a Parks Recreation Open Space District as part of the city's ongoing efforts to enhance public recreational areas.

Ferreira highlighted that this change is part of phase seven of a broader city initiative to rezone various properties for better utilization as open spaces. The proposed rezoning affects approximately 19,682 square feet of land, which is intended to be developed into a park, specifically Channel Square Park.

The meeting included public commentary, with resident Thomas Ernest expressing strong support for the proposed change. He urged board members to approve the request, emphasizing the community's enthusiasm for expanding recreational spaces.
