The Grosse Ile Township government meeting highlighted preparations for the upcoming November election and a series of community events aimed at engaging residents during the fall season.
Clerk Uta reported that absent voter ballots will be distributed shortly, and the township is readying its poll inspector team for the election. Notably, Wayne County has confirmed that there will be no recounts, allowing the township to release some voting equipment in advance.
In addition to election preparations, Uta shared details about several community events designed to foster local engagement. A Halloween dance for third to fifth graders is scheduled for October 18 at Centennial Farm, featuring a costume contest, pizza, drinks, and a DJ. The following day, a Fall Harvest Festival will take place, introducing a beer tent alongside live music, food trucks, and hay rides, all for a nominal entry fee of $5.
For seniors, a free Halloween bingo luncheon is planned for October 23, offering lunch, bingo, and prizes. The festivities will culminate in a Halloween parade on October 26, starting at Grosse Ile High School and proceeding down Macomb Street, complete with trick-or-treating and various activities.
Additionally, the meeting addressed property tax deadlines, noting that summer property taxes were due on September 14, with a grace period extending to September 16. After this date, a penalty will be applied to any unpaid taxes, which can still be settled until February 28, 2025, before becoming delinquent.
These initiatives reflect the township's commitment to both civic engagement and community spirit as it navigates the busy political season ahead.
