In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the proposed repeal of an ordinance related to MetroNet, a telecommunications provider. The focus was on MetroNet's shift towards a fiber-only system, moving away from traditional cable packages as consumer preferences increasingly lean towards streaming services.

The council considered two items together: the repeal of the existing franchise agreement with MetroNet and the approval of a settlement agreement. The proposed changes would allow MetroNet to discontinue its cable offerings while maintaining a dedicated fiber connection to key municipal facilities, including the public works facility, wastewater treatment plant, and nature center. This fiber agreement is set to last until 2036, with an option for a 15-year renewal.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the maintenance of a pole attachment agreement and a right-of-way settlement that had previously been established to resolve installation issues and unpaid fees. The council was urged to approve the repeal of the ordinance and the accompanying settlement to facilitate MetroNet's transition to a fiber-centric service model.
