Brave citizens and officers honored for life saving actions

In a recent government meeting held on March 7, 2024, several citizens and police officers were recognized for their extraordinary acts of bravery and service to the community.

Rebecca Erber, a new resident, was awarded a police chief citizen commendation for her heroic intervention during a pit bull attack that left a 70-year-old woman severely injured. Erber used a stick to fend off the aggressive dogs, preventing further harm to the victim, who expressed deep gratitude for her timely actions that likely saved her life.

Mike Otto also received a commendation for his critical role in an elder fraud investigation. Otto, along with Tacoma Towing employees, assisted police in luring a suspect who had been preying on vulnerable community members. His cooperation was instrumental in the suspect's arrest after months of investigation.

Officers Julia Wabinga, Dustin Kirkham, and Sergeant David Mullen were recognized with a life-saving award for their quick response to a drug overdose incident. They administered Narcan to a passenger who had overdosed on fentanyl, successfully reviving him before he was transported to the hospital.

A team of officers, including Walker, Mahaffey, and Benz, received commendations for their diligent work following a robbery and sexual assault at a massage parlor. Their thorough investigation and collaboration with the victim led to the arrest of a violent predator, ensuring justice and safety for the community.

Officer Daniel Payon was commended for his selfless act of purchasing a new landline phone for an elderly resident, ensuring she could communicate with her family after her previous phone broke.

Lastly, Sergeant Painter and Officers Catlett, Dyer, and Teclamarium were recognized for their tireless efforts in apprehending a dangerous felon involved in drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession. Their investigation led to the recovery of substantial quantities of narcotics and firearms, significantly enhancing community safety.

These commendations highlight the dedication and bravery of both citizens and law enforcement in protecting and serving the community.
