During a recent town council meeting in Apex, North Carolina, Mayor Jacques K. Gilbert proclaimed October 2024 as Italian American Heritage Month, recognizing the significant contributions of Italian Americans to the United States. The proclamation was presented to Michael D'Amore of the Triangle Sons and Daughters of Italy, highlighting the vibrant Italian American community in Apex and the upcoming 6th annual Festa Italiana, scheduled for September 21, 2024. This event aims to celebrate Italian culture and traditions, inviting residents to participate.

Additionally, the council proclaimed September 15 to October 15, 2024, as National Hispanic Heritage Month. Council member Ghent emphasized the importance of recognizing the histories and contributions of Hispanic and Latino individuals in the community. The town plans to host various events, including the Apex Latino Arts Festival on September 28, which will feature music, dance, and cultural activities.

The meeting also included a solemn recognition of Patriot Day, commemorating the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Mayor Gilbert called upon residents to reflect on the sacrifices made by first responders and to honor the memory of those lost.
