In a heartfelt tribute during the recent government meeting, officials remembered John Ferrer, a beloved figure in the local football community, who passed away on June 23, 2024, at the age of 52. Born in 1972 in Carson, California, Ferrer was celebrated for his remarkable contributions to the sport, particularly as a standout player wearing the number 55.
Ferrer graduated in 1990 and was recognized as a three-star athlete, earning numerous accolades throughout his career. He received a scholarship to Coast State Northwest and later returned to the community as a coach, dedicating his life to mentoring young athletes from 1996 to 1991 and again from 2006 to 2009.
His impact extended beyond the field, as he was deeply committed to his family, friends, and players. Ferrer is survived by his wife Cristina, children Connie and Olivia, granddaughter Madison, mother Julie Reynoso, and four siblings, among other family members.
The community will honor Ferrer with a rosary on July 11 at 6:30 PM, followed by a funeral mass at Cornelia Church on July 12. His legacy as a coach and friend will be cherished by all who knew him, as expressed by council members during the meeting. They emphasized the profound loss felt by those who loved and respected him, highlighting his contributions to both the sport and the community.
