New school capacity plan aims to tackle overcrowding crisis

In a recent government meeting, officials highlighted significant developments in addressing the pressing need for additional school seats in District 25. The discussion centered on the upcoming opening of Water's Edge, a new school building set to launch in September 2026, which will provide 96 designated seats for students with disabilities, specifically addressing 58% of the district's elementary school seat deficit.

The meeting underscored the ongoing challenges of space availability in the district, particularly for elementary and high school levels, while noting a smaller deficit at the middle school level. The addition at PS 169 is expected to alleviate some of the middle school seat shortages, as it will cater to both elementary and middle school students.

Several new capacity projects were also announced, including the addition at PS 32 and a new high school at the former St. Agnes building, which will further contribute to the district's educational infrastructure. Additionally, the John Bound campus will see an increase in seats due to a replacement project.
