In a recent government meeting, the city council unanimously approved a resolution to adopt an amended and restated urban renewal plan for the Greater Downtown Urban Renewal Area, designated as version 2024.2. The motion, initiated by Councilmember Reznick and seconded by Wethal, received affirmative votes from all council members present.

City Manager Mike Van Milligan and Economic Development Director Jill Connors presented the updated plan, which aims to expand the urban renewal area to include new sub-areas along Hawthorne and Locust Streets. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance economic development in the downtown region.

The revised urban renewal plan outlines several new projects, including initiatives involving CBDC LLC, Woodward Communications, WHKS and Company, and the Hilton Hotel Tapestry Collection. Additionally, a hotel project is set to be developed in the Port of Dubuque, further contributing to the area's revitalization efforts.
