During a recent government meeting, community representatives voiced pressing concerns regarding local infrastructure and public safety initiatives.
Ishmael Hernandez, a resident of Colonial and States in Edinburgh, addressed the commissioners about the deteriorating condition of Alberta Road. He highlighted the persistent potholes that have plagued the street for years, exacerbated by rain, which not only damages vehicles but also poses challenges for families, particularly when transporting children to school. Hernandez expressed gratitude for previous maintenance efforts on the opposite side of the road and urged the commissioners to extend repairs to the east side, emphasizing the need for immediate action.
In a separate presentation, Javier Solis, the Public Safety Director with the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, announced the upcoming 2nd Annual South Texas Rio Grande Valley Police Canine Competition scheduled for August 3rd. This event aims to showcase the skills of police canines while promoting community engagement and outreach. Solis extended an invitation to county departments to participate and set up booths, reinforcing the importance of recognizing the contributions of these four-legged law enforcement officers. He noted the success of last year’s event, which attracted participants from across the state and even Mexico, and expressed hope for continued community involvement.
The discussions underscored the community's urgent needs for infrastructure improvements and the importance of public safety initiatives, highlighting the local government's role in addressing these issues.
