City leaders unveil funding boost for downtown revitalization

During a recent government meeting, the Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) presented a request for funding assistance to support a part-time position dedicated to maintaining the cleanliness of the downtown area. The discussion highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the BEDC and the Breckenridge Downtown Development Council (BDDC), led by President JB, who emphasized the positive developments in the community.

The city manager reported that, contrary to earlier expectations, there is now available funding to support this initiative without necessitating cuts to the budget. This news was welcomed by the council, as it allows for continued investment in downtown revitalization efforts.

JB outlined several accomplishments of the BDDC over the past three years, including successful campaigns to increase sales tax revenue through liquor sales, the establishment of a facade grant program that has seen significant participation from local merchants, and efforts to facilitate the sale of vacant properties. Notably, the BDDC has also initiated plans for a new dining experience in the downtown area, which aims to enhance the local economy and attract visitors.
