City plans exciting new parks and skate facilities

During a recent government meeting, city officials provided updates on several upcoming park projects, including the long-awaited naming of the new park on Shannon Drive. The design processes for multiple parks, including College Green, Brooklyn, and Calder, are nearing completion, with plans to go out for bids soon. Additionally, a new skate park and pump track are in the works, with groundbreaking expected next year.

Public comments were invited, and resident Anne Jensen shared her experience with the City Park Pool. Jensen, who has lived in Iowa City since 1982, expressed her concerns regarding the pool's design, particularly its curving structure that poses challenges for individuals with mobility issues. She suggested that the design should consider a more gradual slope to accommodate walkers, emphasizing the need for accessibility in public spaces.

The meeting highlighted the city's commitment to enhancing recreational facilities while also addressing community feedback to ensure inclusivity in design.
