Virginia Beach Neptune Festival Celebrates 50 Years of Community Spirit

The Virginia Beach City Council convened recently to honor the Neptune Festival as it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2024. The festival, established in 1974, has become a cornerstone of community pride and economic vitality for the city, recognized as the official celebration of Virginia Beach.

During the meeting, a resolution was read, highlighting the festival's significant contributions to the local economy, generating an annual impact of $26.1 million and attracting over 400,000 attendees during its three-day boardwalk weekend. The festival's mission focuses on providing safe, diverse events that foster family and community engagement while showcasing Virginia Beach's unique coastal identity.

The resolution also acknowledged the festival's role in supporting local nonprofits through its \"Beyond the Boardwalk\" program, which offers marketing opportunities and revenue sharing to various organizations. This initiative exemplifies the festival's commitment to community outreach and collaboration.

King Neptune, represented by Akhil Jean, along with the royal court, was present to accept the resolution. Jean expressed gratitude to the city council and staff for their ongoing support, emphasizing the festival's dedication to enhancing community ties and promoting local art. He introduced the 50th Royal Court of King Neptune, which includes representatives from nine high schools across the city.
