In a recent city commission meeting, officials discussed significant updates on two major initiatives: the ongoing city hall demolition and the search for a new city manager.
Acting Assistant City Manager Ben Rogers provided an update on the city hall project, noting that demolition of the existing structure is progressing well and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, potentially as early as Halloween. The site will remain fenced off and sodded until future plans are finalized. Rogers emphasized the importance of public outreach, mentioning that five workshops have been held to gather community input. He also highlighted ongoing research into procurement strategies by consulting with other municipalities currently undertaking similar projects.
Commission members raised concerns about preserving historical elements from the old city hall. Rogers confirmed that certain items are being archived for future display, although he will follow up to ensure collaboration with local historical agencies.
The meeting also featured an update from Human Resources Director Jerome Post regarding the search for a new city manager. Post announced that a search firm, GovHRUSA, has been engaged and that a citizens advisory board has been formed to facilitate community input. A communications plan and survey are being developed to gather feedback from constituents. The recruitment process is set to begin on October 1 and is expected to conclude by February, with the new city manager potentially starting in March.
The commission expressed appreciation for the progress made in both initiatives, emphasizing the importance of transparency and community involvement in the decision-making processes.
