In a recent city council meeting, officials approved the sale of a 1.39-acre parcel of city-owned land adjacent to Giza Stadium and the Hippo Center, paving the way for a new food truck hub. The property, sold for $845,000, is expected to host over 20 food trucks, enhancing culinary diversity in the community. Council members expressed enthusiasm for the project, particularly its potential to outshine a similar location in nearby Kennewick.
The council unanimously passed two resolutions: the first to surplus the property and the second to authorize the sale. The buyer has already begun the permitting process and aims to establish the food truck hub soon.
Additionally, the council set a public hearing for September 16, 2024, to discuss a petition for the vacation of a 20-foot right-of-way near Road 100 and West Court Street. This process is intended to ensure that public use and traffic flow remain unaffected.
In another significant development, the council approved two developer reimbursement agreements with Big Sky Developers for utility improvements related to residential subdivisions. These agreements allow developers to recoup costs for infrastructure enhancements, with no opposition raised during the public notice period.
Lastly, council member Peralta proposed earmarking tax revenue from local marijuana shops for parks and recreation funding aimed at youth programs. The council expressed support for exploring this initiative during the upcoming budget process.
The meeting concluded with plans for an executive session to discuss additional matters.
