On July 27th, Cajun Comic Relief will host two shows from 3 to 7 PM, with all proceeds benefiting local educational institutions. The initiative aims to support Crowley Elementary Schools, with 50% of the funds directed to the Boys and Girls Club, anticipated to open in August or September. The remaining proceeds will be allocated among South Crowley, Ross Elementary, North Crowley, and Crowley Kindergarten, potentially funding outdoor playground equipment and other recreational needs.
In addition, Slimco announced the awarding of 20 college scholarships, each valued at $2,000, to high school seniors and continuing college students. During a drawing held on June 10, 2024, scholarships were awarded to three students: Mackenzie Broussard from Church Point High School, Sophie Bergeron from Rain High School, and Lane Turner from Iota High School, all aimed at easing their college expenses.
Furthermore, Slimco recognized outstanding youth for the 2023-2024 school year, honoring students who exemplify good citizenship and character. Winners were selected by school administration and faculty based on academic performance, interpersonal skills, respect for others, and community involvement. Medals were presented at their respective schools, with notable recipients including Luc Duprey and Ali Bracette from Muir Elementary, and Gage Gilly and Leah Anderpont from Richard Elementary.
