During a recent government meeting, the police department provided a comprehensive status report detailing their activities for the month of May. Chief of Police reported that the department responded to a total of 401 calls for service, which included a range of incidents such as arrest warrants, domestic violence cases, and neighbor disputes.
The report highlighted several significant events, including five Baker Acts, where individuals were taken into custody for mental health evaluations. Additionally, there were four misdemeanor arrests related to narcotics and battery, as well as two death investigations—one involving a suicide and the other a fatal head injury.
Traffic enforcement was also a focus, with officers conducting 181 traffic stops, resulting in 92 citations issued across various categories, including criminal and moving violations. The department recorded six traffic crashes and processed over 107,000 vehicle tags through their flock camera system, identifying one hit on the watch list.
In terms of code enforcement, the department issued 64 violations and completed 75 reinspections, with ten cases still in violation potentially heading to the code board. The report also noted the completion of several training initiatives, including CPR and firearms training, and the upcoming upgrade to their taser equipment.
Furthermore, the Chief mentioned an ongoing undercover operation related to gambling, in collaboration with the sheriff's department and the Florida Department of State, which has already yielded a financial return of $28,672. This multifaceted report underscores the department's active engagement in community safety and law enforcement efforts.
