Auntie Blanche champions Aloha to uplift homeless community

During a recent government meeting, Auntie Blanche McMillan, founder and CEO of Hui Mahiae Aina, delivered an inspiring message centered on the theme of Aloha and the importance of community support for the houseless population in Hawaii. Auntie Blanche, recognized for her tireless efforts in improving the quality of life for those in need, shared her experiences and the impact of her nonprofit organization, which has expanded to provide 50 homes and currently houses 75 individuals, including 26 children and 15 elders.

The meeting highlighted the challenges faced by the homeless community during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in Waimanalo, where lockdown measures left many individuals without shelter. In response, Auntie Blanche mobilized local resources to build homes and provide essential support, emphasizing her commitment to helping individuals achieve self-sufficiency and independence.

In her heartfelt address, Auntie Blanche spoke about the significance of Aloha, describing it as a deep-rooted love and compassion that should be extended to everyone, especially those who feel marginalized. She recounted a personal story about her grandson, a football player, who carries the spirit of Aloha with him, illustrating the importance of sharing this cultural value beyond Hawaii.
