In a recent government meeting, significant discussions centered around funding and donations aimed at enhancing community resources and addressing environmental concerns.
One of the key items on the agenda was an ordinance authorizing the Greater Cincinnati Water Works to apply for and accept a loan of up to $300,000 from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Ohio Water Development Authority. This funding is earmarked for evaluating treatment and compliance options for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water, a pressing issue given the harmful effects of these chemicals. Councilor Mullins emphasized the importance of adhering to new EPA regulations regarding PFAS, highlighting the urgency of the matter.
The meeting also addressed several donation ordinances. The Cincinnati Parks Department is set to receive in-kind donations valued at over $225 from the Cincinnati Parks Foundation for miscellaneous supplies, as well as a more substantial contribution of horticultural supplies, fireworks, and signage valued at $15,350.50 for the second quarter of 2024. Both items were approved without objection.
Additionally, the Cincinnati Recreation Commission will accept a significant in-kind donation of professional services from Nancy Lieberman Charities, estimated at $150,000. This donation will facilitate the installation of an outdoor basketball court at the Price Hill Recreation Center, further enhancing recreational opportunities for the community.
All items discussed were moved forward for passage, reflecting a commitment to improving local infrastructure and addressing environmental health concerns.
