A new indoor pickleball facility, Pickleball Group, LLC, is set to open in Mount Prospect, Illinois, on September 21. Located at 211 West Rand Road, the venue will feature 14 courts, including 12 regulation and two championship courts, designed to accommodate the growing popularity of the sport.
Owner Ron Wyland expressed enthusiasm during a recent government meeting, highlighting the positive community response he received at local events, including the Fourth of July festival. He noted that construction is progressing well, with hopes for an early completion to allow for a potential soft opening before the grand event.
The facility will offer a range of amenities, including a pro shop, premium locker rooms, and an informal members lounge equipped with large TVs. To enhance the experience, the venue will also serve food and beverages, including alcohol, with strict regulations in place to ensure responsible consumption. Members will be required to show identification upon entry, and alcohol will only be available for consumption within the facility.
Wyland emphasized the family-friendly nature of the club, aiming to attract a diverse demographic, particularly younger players. He noted that the average age of pickleball players has shifted to around 35, with a significant increase in participation among those aged 25 to 34.
The club will operate on a membership basis, offering various benefits, including access to leagues, tournaments, and clinics. Members will receive four guest passes each month, allowing them to introduce friends to the sport.
Trustees expressed their excitement about the new addition to the community, recognizing the potential for pickleball to provide a recreational outlet during the winter months. The facility aims to foster a social environment, encouraging both exercise and community engagement.
