The Board of Works unanimously approved a fare-free transit initiative for both primary and general election days, aimed at enhancing access to polling places. This initiative was introduced by a city representative and received strong support from Planning and Transit Director Beth Schroeder, as well as City Administrator Bill Oeding and Mayor Costas.

The fare-free service is seen as a crucial step in encouraging voter turnout, which has been notably low, with only 20% participation in the last election.
