The Marion City School District held a significant meeting recently, marked by a moment of remembrance for Ted Stilarczyk, a beloved educator and community member who passed away on July 16th at the age of 92. His legacy includes providing essential support such as free meals and tutoring for at-risk students.
Following the tribute, the meeting transitioned to administrative updates from interim superintendent Mr. Haynor. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead and assured the board that decisions would prioritize student welfare. Key dates were announced, including the staff convocation on August 12th, where Chromebooks will be distributed, and a special guest, Scarlett Lewis, will speak on the theme of love and resilience.
The school year will commence with staggered open houses for different grade levels on August 13th, followed by the first day of school for preschool and kindergarten on August 19th. Transition days for incoming sixth and ninth graders are also planned to help students acclimate to their new environments.
