In a recent city council meeting, the Garden Grove City Council honored the Pacifica High School softball team for their remarkable achievement in winning the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship. The recognition included a community spotlight segment, where the team and their coaches were invited to the front to receive certificates of achievement.
Coach Tony Arderino, who has led the team for five years, was celebrated not only for the championship win but also for being named the 2024 All CIF Southern Section Championship Coach of the Year. Under his leadership, the Mariners finished the Empire League with an impressive perfect record of ten wins and concluded the season with an overall record of 27 wins and just 2 losses.
The team secured their championship title with a decisive 3-0 victory against Orange Lutheran High School, marking their ninth section title and making history as the first team to win back-to-back CIF Southern Section Division 1 championships. Their successful season also included winning the 28th annual Dave Kops Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Arizona, and being named the 2024 California State Softball Team of the Year by Cal High Sports.
Reflecting on the season, Coach Arderino expressed gratitude to players, coaches, parents, and the community for their unwavering support, emphasizing that the championship was a collective effort.
