Community celebrates vibrant India festival in Beaverton

During a recent government meeting, officials highlighted significant community events and developments in housing initiatives. Notably, the annual India cultural festival successfully relocated from Portland Pioneer Square to Beaverton, where attendees enjoyed a larger venue filled with music, dance performances, and diverse food offerings.

Additionally, the meeting featured a visit from the new Assistant Director at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for field and policy development, along with regional staff. They toured various local housing projects in Washington County, including the Safe Rest Village at Aloha United Methodist Church, Heartwood Commons, and Nuevo Esperanza in Hillsboro.

The Assistant Director commended the region for its proactive approach to housing, noting that local officials have sought voter support for funding through an affordable housing bond and supportive housing services before requesting additional assistance from HUD. This acknowledgment underscores the community's commitment to addressing housing challenges effectively.
