During a recent Roanoke City Council meeting, several key appointments to various boards and commissions were announced and approved. Vice Mayor presented a list of nominees, highlighting the reappointment of Drew Keppley to the Architectural Review Board for a four-year term.
Josh Bridal was appointed to the Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare Board of Directors to fill the unexpired term of Daniel Karnes, which ends on December 31, 2026. Margaret Lindsay, the new director of finance, received multiple appointments, including to the City of Roanoke Pension Plan Board of Trustees and the Defined Contribution Board, both as an ex officio member.
Other notable appointments included James Settle to the Board of Zoning Appeals, Duriel Wood to the Building and Fire Code Board of Appeals, and Genesis Ward Jones to the Human Services Advisory Board. The Roanoke Arts Commission welcomed Demetrius Johnson, filling the term of the late Helen Dean.
The council also affirmed the appointment of Kaley Kreitzer to the Roanoke Public Library Board, nominated by Dr. Verlita White, and Nita Price to fill an expired term on the same board. Carolyn Kohl's was appointed to the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority for a new four-year term, while Nadira Wright filled an expired term.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote of approval for all nominees, despite a disclosure from a council member regarding a familial connection to one of the appointees, which was deemed not to present a conflict of interest.
