Coach Raul Rodriguez of the Fountain Valley 14U All-Star Girls Fastpitch team addressed the city council, expressing gratitude for their recognition and support. The team, which has achieved a remarkable record of 23 wins and 4 losses this season, has participated in six tournaments, winning four and finishing second in another. Notably, they secured the title of district champions, marking a significant achievement for both the team and the city.
Rodriguez highlighted the challenges faced during their recent participation in the Southern California state tournament, where extreme heat conditions led to instances of heat exhaustion among players. Despite these difficulties, the team qualified for the upcoming Western Nationals in Everett, Washington, where they will compete against the top 12 teams from Southern California.
The coach emphasized the financial burden this trip poses for families, appealing for community support through sponsorships and donations. He noted that for many players, this will be their first experience flying, adding to the excitement of competing at a national level.
Rodriguez concluded by underscoring the values instilled in the players through their participation in the league, including sportsmanship, perseverance, and personal growth. He expressed pride in the team's accomplishments and their representation of Fountain Valley, urging the community to rally behind them as they prepare for the national tournament.
