In a recent government meeting, the Livingston Parish karate team was celebrated for their remarkable achievement of being national champions for two consecutive years. The team is now gearing up to defend their title at the upcoming world championships, scheduled to take place from July 25 to 28 in Phoenix, Arizona.
During the meeting, a representative from the team highlighted their dedication and hard work, emphasizing the importance of showcasing their skills on an international stage. The karate team, which practices at Ray Livingston Karate, has been preparing to compete against approximately 50 to 60 teams from around the globe, including competitors from Chile and Mexico, whom they successfully defeated in previous tournaments.
The team, consisting of members of various ages, is not only focused on their upcoming championship but also on local events. They will host a tournament at Dole Elementary on August 17, inviting teams from across the region to compete.
The sensei, Ray Livingston, a five-time black belt, has been instrumental in training the team since 2011. The karate program has fostered a strong community spirit, with many families participating together. To support their travel expenses for competitions, the team actively seeks donations, highlighting the commitment of single parents and families involved in the sport.
