In a recent meeting, the lieutenant governor, alongside his chief counsel and developers from the hotel and amphitheater projects, announced the approval of the Starvaughn initiative. This marks a significant step forward as the state has initiated a feasibility study, which is currently being ordered.
Once the study is completed, the next phase will involve the attorneys presenting formal agreements based on the discussions and proposals that have taken place. Notably, the developers have clarified that they are not seeking any direct financial support from the commission or the city of Burlington. Instead, their requests focus on tax strategies, including a Community Improvement District (CID) and tax abatements specifically for the amphitheater component of the project.
This development highlights a collaborative effort between state officials and private developers aimed at enhancing local infrastructure without imposing additional financial burdens on the city.
