The total projected cost for the entire park development has now reached approximately $10.3 million, significantly higher than initial estimates due to design modifications and inflation.

Christopher Jensen, the Parks and Community Services Director, emphasized the necessity of the change order to fulfill the council's earlier funding commitments. The project, which is being executed in three phases, aims to ultimately provide six sports fields and various recreational facilities. Discussions among council members raised concerns about the escalating costs and the potential need to pause the third phase of development, which is not yet budgeted or scheduled for construction.

In addition to the park developments, the council also approved a $30,000 supplemental appropriation to hire a municipal advisory firm, Fieldman Rollup and Associates, to explore financing options for replacing aging fire apparatus. The fire department's current engines are significantly outdated, with some exceeding 20 years of service. The need for timely replacement is critical, as the procurement process for new apparatus can take up to 48 months.

Furthermore, the council allocated an additional $150,000 from the general fund to extend a contract with the law firm Liebert Cassidy Whitmore for ongoing labor negotiations and employee-related legal services. This funding is necessary due to the prolonged nature of current negotiations and anticipated disciplinary hearings.

The council's decisions reflect a commitment to enhancing community infrastructure and public safety, despite the challenges posed by rising costs and extended timelines.
