During a recent city council meeting in Ridgecrest, community leaders gathered to address various topics, including a heartfelt prayer for national unity and local elections, as well as recognizing dedicated city staff and honoring a prominent community member.

The meeting commenced with a prayer led by a council member, who emphasized the importance of wisdom for national leaders and called for civility and decency in the upcoming elections. The prayer also highlighted ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and expressed gratitude for local city staff, particularly those reaching significant milestones in their service.

Following the prayer, the city attorney reported on two items discussed in a closed session—existing litigation and real property negotiations—stating that no reportable actions were taken.

The council then shifted focus to employee recognition, celebrating three staff members for their years of service: Jennifer Ledbetter for five years, Captain Justin Dampierre for 25 years, and Patricia Rockwell for ten years. The council expressed appreciation for their commitment to the community.

A significant highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Key to the City award to Michael Cash, a long-time resident and community advocate. Councilman Rajaratnam praised Cash for his extensive involvement with veteran organizations and his founding of Operation Family, which supports military families during challenging times. Cash's contributions to the community, including his work with various local organizations, were acknowledged as exemplary.

In his acceptance speech, Cash humbly redirected the focus from himself to the collective efforts of community volunteers, emphasizing the importance of service and faith in his life.
