Residents of Clubside Drive voiced their concerns over severe flooding during a recent government meeting, highlighting the ongoing challenges they face due to inadequate drainage systems. Richard Deweyer, a long-time resident, shared alarming images of flooding that he described as \"seven times worse\" than previous incidents, including a significant event in 2013.
Deweyer explained that the flooding is exacerbated by a pond owned by local property owner McGowan, which overflows during heavy rains, directing water into the residential area. He noted that the existing drainage infrastructure, including a two-foot pipe, is insufficient to handle the volume of water during storms, leading to water pooling in yards and streets.
The discussion also touched on the potential for improvements to the drainage system. Deweyer suggested that excavating the area near the road could help divert water more effectively into the existing drainage pipe. He emphasized the need for a larger drainage solution to prevent future flooding, particularly during extreme weather events.
City officials, including the street department manager, were present to listen to residents' concerns. They acknowledged the issues raised and indicated that the meeting would be reviewed for further action. Additionally, Deweyer inquired about future plans for water and sewer lines in the area, to which officials confirmed that only water lines are currently planned, with no immediate plans for sewer installation.
The meeting underscored the urgent need for infrastructure improvements to address the persistent flooding issues faced by residents of Clubside Drive, as they seek solutions to protect their homes from future weather-related damage.
