The meeting revealed that the local hospital foundation has generously donated over 10 acres of land for the proposed center, located conveniently across from the aquatic center. However, the city must commence construction by August 2026, with the possibility of extending this deadline if progress can be demonstrated.

Initial construction estimates range from $8 million to $10 million, a figure that has raised concerns given that a similar facility in Muhlenberg County was completed for approximately $4.5 million. The officials acknowledged the impact of COVID-19 on costs and timelines but expressed optimism about the feasibility of their budget.

Operational costs for the new center are projected at around $360,000 annually, which includes staffing and utilities. Revenue generation remains uncertain, but preliminary estimates suggest potential earnings of $70,000 from hosting tournaments, alongside additional income from concessions and facility rentals.

Officials are actively seeking input from community members on innovative ways to enhance revenue streams, as they recognize that initial losses may be offset by support from other sources, similar to the existing aquatic center model.
