The house, previously a rental for 20 years, was purchased without an inspection and has since revealed extensive damage, including rotted floor joists and sill plates, as well as severe foundation issues. Currently, the structure is supported by jack stands while repairs are underway.
The homeowner plans a complete gut renovation, replacing all interior elements while preserving the original rock foundation. The roof is in good condition, with no leaks reported, and the shingles are relatively new. However, the exterior will undergo a transformation, with the removal of aluminum siding in favor of LP Smart Siding that mimics the original wood appearance.
New windows will be installed, maintaining a similar look to the originals, while transom windows will be added to enhance natural light. The homeowner is also working to restore internal chimneys from the late 1800s, although they will not be functional fireplaces.
Despite the ambitious plans, the renovation has faced delays due to contractor scheduling challenges and personal circumstances, including a serious car accident that impacted the homeowner's ability to oversee the project. The completion date, initially set for September, has been pushed back, with no definitive timeline established.
While the property has not been officially deemed unsafe, the homeowner acknowledges that its current condition would likely warrant such a designation if inspected. Ultimately, the goal is to convert the renovated house into an Airbnb, with the possibility of downsizing into the property in the future.
