In a recent government meeting, officials discussed significant budget adjustments for the Cordova expansion project, originally estimated at $10 million, with equal contributions from the county and city. Due to unforeseen cost escalations of 30-35% in construction and engineering expenses, the total projected cost has now risen to $15 million. This includes $7.5 million each from the county and city, alongside approximately $20 million in state and federal funding aimed at enhancing drainage systems.
The project, which is set to go out for contract in the summer of 2025, faced challenges related to utility relocations and other development costs. Officials expressed hope that the budget would remain stable to ensure the project's completion.
Additionally, discussions included the Cibolo interlocal agreement concerning Bolton, Lower Seguin, and Dean Road, with a total budget of approximately $1.15 million. The county plans to fund this project over two years, making payments of $547,000 each year. Cibolo officials were receptive to this payment structure, allowing for flexibility in the budget process despite the midyear request.
These developments highlight the ongoing financial challenges faced by local governments in managing infrastructure projects amidst rising costs and the need for strategic planning to ensure timely completion.
