Public hearing sparks debate over Nolensville zoning changes

The August 1, 2024, Board of Commissioners meeting in Nolensville, Tennessee, commenced with the confirmation of a quorum, allowing the session to proceed. The board unanimously approved the minutes from the previous public hearing held on June 6, 2024.

The meeting featured two significant public hearings regarding zoning ordinances. The first, Ordinance 24-6, proposed an amendment to the zoning ordinance's definition of \"mezzanine.\" Following this, the board opened a public hearing for Ordinance 24-7, which sought to rezone a 37-acre parcel located at 0 York Road from Municipal Growth Area District 1 to Rural Large Character District CD-2L.

During the public hearing for the rezoning, several residents expressed their views. Alan Hassell, an applicant for the rezoning, emphasized the importance of the annexation process and the intention to maintain the rural character of the area by constructing a single-family residence. He highlighted that the land falls within the urban growth plan and is adjacent to the existing town boundary, advocating for the approval of the annexation and rezoning.

Terry Teague, another resident, raised concerns regarding access to the property, referencing historical family ties to the land and requesting that the lane leading to the parcel be named McLean Lane, honoring its historical significance.
