In a recent Crowley Independent School District board meeting, the Solar Eagles, a team of students from Crowley High School, were recognized for their impressive achievements in the Solar Car Challenge. Under the guidance of instructor James Schroeder, the team successfully built and raced a solar-powered car, showcasing their hard work and dedication over the past two years.
Schroeder recounted the journey from concept to reality, highlighting the students' commitment, which included early mornings and long days at the Texas Motor Speedway. The team faced numerous challenges, including technical issues during scrutineering, where they had to demonstrate their car's capabilities in various tests. Despite these obstacles, they qualified for the race, ultimately securing third place out of 28 competing teams in the cruiser division.
Students shared their experiences, emphasizing the valuable skills they gained through the project, including teamwork, problem-solving, and technical knowledge. The Solar Eagles' success not only earned them trophies but also provided them with real-world experience in engineering and collaboration.
The board expressed pride in the students' accomplishments and announced the potential for continued support through a new grant from the Sid Richardson Foundation, which would allow the program to thrive and compete in future challenges. The meeting concluded with a celebration of the students' hard work and the positive impact of the solar car program on their education and personal growth.
